Keeping up

So a little over a week ago my phone broke. It just quit. We figured out the charger had shorted out. Waiting for my new phone to come in took a long time. The loaner wouldn't work with my blog. Not too much has happened.

The last couple of days I've been working hard on getting Adrian to sign the word bird. We're super close! He also makes a b sounds, which I consider big progress. Tonight he actually panted when seeing lily on FaceTime. He's never attempted an animal sound! Pretty sweet.

The girls and I went to Marshalltown for a bridal shower this morning. It was a great time. I still can't believe my Joan is getting married!
I babysat her when she was little! I feel old now!

This thing still will not let me post pictures. I may have to look into a new blog app!

I'm alive

So I've been without technology for the past few day. Turns out my charger fried my phone! So lovely. We have a new one coming and I'm using a loaner.
I was sick over the weekend. I'm better now. My antibiotics have helped a lot.
Today is our 8 year wedding anniversary. It's another year come and gone! Crazy how things go fast.

Life isn't always sunshine and happy hearts being married, but the things we face and battle have made us stronger. I love you Ryan!

Family night

My niece Ava Jo is here to spend the night with us. My mom brought her to visit. As you can see, Grammy has been crafty. She made everyone troll headbands. She also put together baskets for movie treats tonight.

If you haven't seen Moana, it's very good! You should see it!

Crazy

The weather and wind this week has been nuts. I'm over the wind. I want the nice 70 degree temps back. The kids are in such better moods when we can be outside all day.
This is VI's crazy hair don't care pic!

We spent our day doing some major food shopping while Viola was in school. Followed that up with cleaning house and doing laundry. That chore is never just done. I despise laundry!
The good news of our week is that Ry is back on overtime!

Baby steps

We've been trying for the better part of two years to get Viola to ride s big girl bike with training wheels.
Yesterday at Ryan's parents she got on the one they had (it's slightly smaller) and rode with no issues.
Today she decided to try hers again. She hopped on. It leaned on each side. I explained the wheel will always catch her. She understood.

She went. I was excited. She made a VERY small circle and was done. She informed me that she'll try again at the farm. Such a Viola answer! I guess progress is progress.

We also survived the tornado warning. I had no idea it was happening because the tv kept going out. Thank goodness for friends and family calling and texting me! Five of ya kept me updated while the kids and I were in the basement. Ryan was watching out the backdoor.
Iz was the most upset. She is good now and in bed. I hate how hard it is sometimes to explain these things to them. Storms gone now though!

Apple treats

At the end of one of Isabelle's books there's a recipe to make apple mouths. It's cute. I'm sure you've all seen it on Pinterest. My mom was visiting again so we did a little snack craft.

It was slightly difficult but yummy.

Vi was only into the marshmallow part! Not shocking.

We literally spent all day outside. The kids are pooped out and already going to bed! Mom win right there!!

And today we officially let Adrian ride up and down the street. He was indifferent to it. Ryan is all about starting them young!

Date night

Last night Ry and I finally had some time to go out.
We had tickets to see Drew Lynch at the funny bone. He is hysterical. He was on America's Got Talent and got second place I suppose if that's how you want to word it. Anyway-look him up. He has a stutter and that's how he got into his career.

So this is him. He has a service dog, Stella. A lot of his jokes are on himself and his dog, but it's great.
I did a shout out tweet today at him. I thanked him for such a great show and for all the laughs. I haven't seen Ry laugh that much in a long time and it was just what we needed after the crap we were given this week.
He responded. I screenshot it. I'm lifewith6kappys. I was stoked.

It was a great night. Good food. Awesome drinks. Even better company!

Motivated

I was a motivated mom today. I got this house caught up!
Laundry (4 loads)
Vacuumed
Mopped
Did dishes (3x)
Dusted (hate this one!)
Put said laundry away
Bathed kids
Usual mom stuff, but felt like so much more. Maybe it's because the snow is gone now, or the new sentsy wax...either way, I feel accomplished!
Tonight we just hung out and had fun!

New face

Adrian started making this silly new face today. It's funny because rather than move his tongue around he moves his lower lip.

Our day was really this exciting. I wish those warm temps would come back!!

AEA

Adrian finally had another AEA evaluation this morning. It was awesome because we were able to be outside and enjoy the nice weather.
Meet Julie. Our awesome home guide! Vi was nice enough to steal a picture of her. She is the sweetest person!

Julie was able to really see just how active and busy Adrian's become in the last couple of months. He's excelling in his gross motor skills, which he always has! For those he's right where any 18 month old should be.
His communication skills is slightly different. He's not where he should be for an 18 month old, but since we can still adjust his age by those extra two months, he's ok. He's where a 16 month old should be.
We're going to really start working on pointing out objects, people, animals, food and so on. Then we'll work on trying to say them. How successful I'll be in that is beyond me. It's tough with the other three kids, but we'll find a way to make it work! I need to buy new baby books!
Overall, it was a great visit!

Our wall

No. Not the one our excuse of a president is talking about building.
Ry is building a wall with concrete stones- bell guard vintage- to be exact on the type. A retaining wall.
I can't wait until he's done with the whole process. It took most of the day to dig out the dirt and get it level, yesterday. Rain today hindered more progress.
But here's where we're at so far!

We repurposed most of the dirt to fill in holes all over the front yard. The biggest hole will be when Ry digs out the tree stump!

So tonight he got some started, but it started to rain again and got dark. These home projects are hard, but we love being able to finally have our own home to do it the way we want!

Spoiled

Isabelle is getting spoiled at my moms this weekend. She came down yesterday and slept over and took Iz back with her.
She's currently at a Ramona Quimby play! That I'm super jealous of.

She got a special outfit:

She got her hair done just right by Grammy:

Then she ate out with Grammy and papa for dinner!

She also made a tutu. She did a lot of the work herself, too!

The cutie has been texting me all day on moms phone too. It's quite hilarious the conversations or emoji texts you can have with a seven year old!
I'm so glad she's able to get all this spoiling! She needs it!

Confences

Had both girls' conferences tonight!
Both are doing awesome.
Viola has bloomed out of her shy bubble and is talking much more with her teachers. She's come a long way.
Iz is doing great. She's rocking her reading more and more, and is doing great in math.
She's far above where she's supposed to be!
I'm proud of her!

We spent all afternoon playing outside! This weather is insane! Like is this real life? We'll totally take it though!

Mr. Sneaky

Adrian has become a master of being mr. Sneaky the last couple of days.
The biggest issue we have is him constantly pulling out the kitchen table chairs and climbing up onto the table. He loves this. He dances when he's done. He also pushes the chairs everywhere. I need bungee cords!
This morning I was in the shower and I glanced out to see he'd tossed my glasses to the floor behind him!
He's keeping us busy!

Dirt for miles

It's safe to say Ry is back to feeling like himself today. He spent all afternoon finishing up the tree clean up and moving the river rock to the back of the house!
While we have eager helpers, they played more than anything.

Safety is a must for Iz!

It's all mud now. The bricks are gone, the weed traps and rock. We still have a messy looking yard, but we can't really do too much more until it's warmer. It'll be so nice to have all grass! I want a flag pole too!

So like I said, Ryan did awesome. It took me all day to get laundry caught up. I'm still very fatigued. I haven't been this sick in years, so I guess that's what I get! I'm just glad my body aches and headache is gone!

Laying low

We've been pretty low key the past few days. Henry, Vi and Adrian are fighting a rough cold. Vi looks rough today. Her poor eyes just water and she coughs to the point of gagging. I'm so ready for spring!
Adrian's been super snugly lately-which I'll take any day!

Three

One thing we all learned today: Henry hates being the center of attention. He didn't want to be told happy birthday, he didn't want to be sang to, he didn't like the car cake, he liked the blue cake. Put a candle in said blue cake and life is swell.

He didn't want help with his gifts, but he did love them!

He got these light up go tracks and a remote control car. By far the biggest hits!

He and Ryan played a lot this afternoon with the remote control car!

As any party goer does, he passed out just before six tonight!

Purple palooza

Isabelle's school had their annual silent auction and dance fundraiser tonight. Lots of craziness.
A DJ, three bouncy houses, face painting, a photo booth, and lots of people!
The girls had pizza and an entire bag of cotton candy to themselves. Yes. I let it happen. Surprisingly-they're both completely passed out! Mom win!!

Unit 31

I received an amazing email via Isabelle's teacher today!
She's just been soaring in reading lately. She was bumped up a couple units last week, but this week she was bumped big time! My reaction was "finally", followed by "yes"!
This girl went from unit 24 to 28 and skipped to 31 in a week. She absolutely loves reading!! I'm so proud!!!

I'm glad my book shoving is paying off!! Mommy brag over!

Shattered

My heart hurts and my head keeps spinning from all the sad news headlines. It's been bugging me all day so I feel obligated to blog it and get it off my shoulders. Bear with me or quit reading.

I'm not political. I'm not a debater. I don't like conflict and I don't like to start conflicts. But I'm just not ok with what I keep seeing and hearing.

I've tried very hard to look at everything from all points of view and with an open mind. I'm for keeping our country safe. Yes. But after reading so many stories of innocent people being trapped and not knowing what to do makes me so sad. I feel terrible for those with families who they can't help. I see stories of these people coming here and having American born children...their parents have traveled and are trapped-all I can think is "How can someone do this"? My mind won't stop. Tearing families and what seems like our country apart isn't what "we the people" stands for.

"We the people"- we work together, fight together, move forward together, and we certainly shouldn't turn against each other (which is the direction I feel things are headed towards).

My hope is that even though policies look very unpleasant and tense, is that things settle and the best choices are made for the good. There are good people out there fighting for the rights of these people.

My goal as an American, a wife and a mom is to teach my kids how to be good, compassionate and loving individuals. Ones that go out of their way, to make sure the people who look as if they don't have friends; will go to them and be their friend. To be that person who will sit and listen to anyone who needs an ear. To spread love and joy!

I'm that kind of person. I want and expect my kids to be the same. The world needs this. Love and lots of it.

Family night

We had a big family dinner at Ryan's parents. Great food and great times.

The "north room" as we call it has become more of a theatrical room. The kids put in a show and had all the adults sit and watch. 11 kids can make it very interesting.

We celebrated Charlie's birthday.

Lots of sweet treats.

The best part of this day/night is that the kids crash the second they lay down for bed! Mom win!
